Boredom does not kill anyone at the end of the day. However, we all know that boredom sucks! When you are encompassed by the irresistible but tight and boring arms of boredom, you may lose yourself deep inside the pits of various kinds of time-wasting activities instead of investing your time for your future. So-called "social media" is one these bottomless pits which we the people are trapped. But, that same boredom which directs us into the depths of social media, also creates a claustrophobic environment as time goes by and makes us feel bored of our own social media activities. That's where we look for a solution for our social media addiction.

Let's visualize the relationship of boredom and social media use in some strange way by benefiting from ancient wisdom. Just like an ourobos -the mythological serpent which eats its tail-, you realize that you are fed up with all the fuss of social media while you try to find some inspiration and feed yourself. You begin to see that your contribution and consumption of social media make you exhausted in the end. Pseudo-mathematically speaking: "boredom + boredom = social media addiction", which is also equal to uncountable boredom. These are not fresh news, right? So, can we do anything instead of spending our time on social media websites? Yes, we can! Before going any further, let's dive into the definition of social media.

What is "social" about social media?

In his short article, Klaus Bruhn Jensen says that "all media are social, in the sense that they establish and maintain relations between and among humans as individuals and collectives, increasingly across space and time. No medium is more social than any other medium. But each medium is social in distinctive ways." University College London (UCL), which presents an online social media course called Why We Post: Anthropology of Social Media. Social media (by which I mean Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). 

So, do not get easily convinced if someone comes to you and tells you that he for sure knows what social media is. But, you understand what I mean, right? For regular Internet users, social media can be defined as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin.
